What is your question?
I ran the code and it tells me that I must replace the transmission solenoids. I believe they overheated because the water pump belt broke and I did not notice it. As it is , the car has a maximum speed of 40 mph comfortably. How much time is required to replace these solenoids? Occasionally, the car shifts hard when the car is put in gear from park or neutral. It has done that for a long time and it happens only some times when I shift into drive.
What makes this problem better or worse?
It just won't shift; if I stay off the expressway . If I stay under 35 mph, it is fine.
How long has your 2000 Cadillac Seville had this problem?
a year or so.

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! If your Seville isn't shifting out of first gear and the code is pointing to transmission solenoids, it's likely they need replacing. Overheating due to a broken water pump belt could certainly contribute to solenoid failure. Replacing transmission solenoids can be a time-consuming job, typically requiring several hours. You'll need to drop the transmission pan and sometimes remove parts of the valve body to access the solenoids. Plan on a shop taking anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, depending on their familiarity with the job and any complications. Given the hard shifting when moving from park or neutral into drive, you might also have some wear in the transmission or related components. After replacing the solenoids, keep an eye on the transmission fluid condition and level to ensure everything is running smoothly.
