Has there been a GM update (1998-99) for check coolant level light?

1999 Cadillac Eldorado - 80k miles - have replaced surge tank (and coolant level sensor) 3x to eliminate "check coolant level" message - my ex-Cadillac mechanic says he's sure GM had a PCM update ( probably way back around 1998-99) that causes the light to go out. If so -it appears I'll have to take the Eldorado to the Cadillac dealer
