The "sevice transmission" reads on the dash. I purchased an OBD II code reader, and it retreived code "PO717" input turbine speed sensor "A" circuit / no signal.I've ordered and received the new AC Delco speed sensor, p/n 24207491, but I don't recall seeing this on the transmission, when I changed the filter and pan gasket...is it external, or inside the pan ?

It is inside the side cover of the transmission, I am sorry to say this, but you will need to remove the transmission to replace this sensor, according to the book and also in my experience as an Automatic Transmission rebuilder who did so at Dealerships.
