How do I remove the shock dampener that goes over the inner tie rod end at the rack? Everything I have seen says to slide it but that isn't working

Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Im not sure what you mean by the shock dampener, do you mean the black rubber boot that goes over the inner tie rod? That is simply a protective boot to keep dirt out of the rack and the inner tie rod. Sometimes they get pretty stuck on there and need some convincing. Once the clamp has been removed you can sometimes get in there with a small pick to break the seal and pull it off. Sometimes there is no way to avoid them coming apart while trying to remove them. Sometimes using a little brake clean or something to loosen it up will help.
