Car runs hot not over heating but almost then suddenly drops to normal

Hello, since the problem seems to happen when stopped, have you checked to see if the cooling fans operate? If the temperature is manageable when the vehicle is driving -- air is flowing at that time through the radiator. If you are stopped, and the fans are not on -- there is no air flowing. Check here first. You could have several different things going on, but check this first.
