88 sedan deville- how do i temporarily close lid securely until i can fix?

Lid latched but motor wouldnt close lid the rest of the way. Opon feeling the motor, it was very hot so i unplugged it for now. I dont want my trunk half open until i can get it fixed. Need to know how to secure it so it's closed all the way. The 2" gap is extremely noticeable & the car is too big for my garage. Since its an '88 sedan & not a '59 coupe convertable, one could probably guess that mine is not a neighborhood in which to leave ones car unsecured. Even if i empty the trunk, some idiot will still crack it open just to cauze more damage. Please help. It aint much but its all i got. Thanks
