I have to wiggle the gear shift handle to make car start

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. There is a transmission position switch that allows the engine to crank - or not - depending on if the shift lever is in park or neutral gears, or another gear. I would check that switch and the wiring to the switch, then the shift lever itself. A diagnostic tool that can monitor and measure the gear indicated by the switch at any given time should be used.
