2004 cadillac cts vvt why is it making clicking sound and lost engine power?

I filled gas tank yesterday and it wouldnt start for a few minutes and than started right up.Today I was driving and the motor started making a clicking noise and began to lose engine power and the clicking got worse and as I hit the gas more the noise got louder and faster and eventually the car lost almost all engine power and stalled and than wouldnt start for like an hour and when it didstart i had to keep my foot on the accelerator and the clicking was still coming from the motor and when i let go the car stalled out again
How long has your 2004 Cadillac CTS had this problem?
I just bought this car 3 days ago and It just started happening but had a clunk when put into drive which i think is the motor mounts

Hello, this sounds like an internal engine noise. You bought this car 3 days ago?! From a private party or a car lot? Hoping you have some recourse; this doesn't sound inexpensive. Do not continue to try and drive the car -- by doing so additional damage is likely being done.
