Thank you for reaching out to Car Genius. Typically steam is not a concern, every vehicle has an amount of moisture in the system and when starting a vehicle the temperature change causes that steam. Now if what is coming out of the exhaust is smoke, it could be multiple things. Oil, coolant or Fuel. With fuel, typically a CEL would be present for a o2 sensor reading. Oil and coolant would have distinct looks and smells if it were coming out of the exhaust. Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks again for reaching out to Car Genius. -Austin
