What is your question?
Hi! I have a 2014 Cadillac ATS 2.5L that needs a new rear differential. I have to find the part myself and I found someone with a 2014 Cadillac ATS 3.6L. Would the differential from that car fit into mine or would I need to find my exact car make and model? I read on GM that it should fit but I need to make sure before spending the money.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Rear differential
How long has your 2014 Cadillac ATS had this problem?
A week

Hi this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team. It's a possibility that the differential assembly will fit, what may be different though is the gear ratio inside the differential. Manufacturers can make internal changes to suit various engine options, or in some cases pair unique differentials to special powertrains. To be sure though you could call a preferred Cadillac dealer's parts department for more information. They'll be able cross-check the part numbers for each assembly to verify if they're compatible and will be able to confirm if the gear ratio is the same in the 2.5L and 3.6L variants. Whatever the outcome is, be sure to use a differential with the gear ratio that matches your vehicle's specifications, changing the ratio could have an adverse effect on performance and stability control modules.
