My shift button broke so I cannot put my car into gear and need to remove my gear shift knob.

The shift knob, button and boot all come together as an assembly. With the transmission in "neutral", and the parking brake set, unclip the transmission control indicator opening cover from the center console, then twist and pull up on the shift knob. That is per the service manual.
