What is your question?
So the short story here. I bought a beautiful 1990 Buick Skylark. Drove it home, it was a little rough. My dad and i did some work and we changed the right CV axle joint. And the car will still turn on AND change gears. However, it will not move at all. Occasionally when put back into park there is this odd grinding/ratcheting noise. Pleasee help me. I really want this to be my first project/restoration thing.
How long has your 1990 Buick Skylark had this problem?
More than a year

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! First off, a 1990 Skylark as a first project is a great choice and it sounds like you and your dad are diving in the right way! The grinding and ratcheting noise going back into park combined with no movement after the CV axle replacement could mean a few things worth exploring. It's possible the CV axle wasn't fully seated into the transmission during installation, which would prevent power from transferring to the wheels. That grinding in park could be pointing toward the parking pawl not engaging properly as well. Before assuming the worst it's worth double checking that the axle is fully and properly seated since that's a common miss on this type of job.
