What would cause my transmission fluid to smell burned and turn.brown?

what you have there are burned forward clutches in the tranny. the name of your tranny is a "4T65E". it's definately time for a rebuild before you do more damage. we usually charge $1800 canadian. that includes removal, rebuild and re install.
