The car will start and run but it seems as if it's missing every once and a wile it will shut off It reads error were the miles go. When I try to hook up scan tool it will connect to vehicle
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello, It is quite common for the GM instrument clusters to fail, but the PCM and BCM can cause faults as well. PCM=powertrain control module BCM=body control module Check the fuses in the center console fuse block named IPMDL (15A) and IGN 0 (2A). If either is bad, you can get some issues, but I don't think they will be the cause. It is most likely a failed instrument cluster or body control module, and if the fuses are good, diagnostics will be required. The reason I think it is the instrument cluster is that the information for the mileage of the vehicle is stored on the logic board inside the instrument cluster, so outside data should not need exist to display the odometer correctly.
