Ac only works when the electronic screen displays the red and blue bars

My electronic dash screen rarely shows the hot and cold bars for ac. The ac only works when its displayed on screen. The back up display when in reverse works on same screen just fine it just wont display the blue and red lines for hotter or colder. It has the display screen in between the 2 nobs
