What is your question?
what is the cause of the water forcing the belt off and what is the fix? When it;s raining and if I'm driving next to the curb, and hit a large puddle of water the POWER STEERING/ALT belt will be forced off the pulley.
What makes this problem better or worse?
raining and standing water
How long has your 1997 Buick Park Avenue had this problem?
since I've had the car, now 8 months (120K miles)

Could be a weak tensioner or worn out belt. Water isn't good but it shouldn't come off that easily. Alex
I don't think they have normal puddles of water in Dallas TX from what I remember
For 'some reason' - the belt is wanting to run off anyway - water just makes it easier to do so. This will req *hands-on* inspection / evaluation by qualified personnel. Keep in mind once a serpentine belt runs off track - it will continue to do so unless it is replaced.
thank you Is there a guage to ck the strength of the tensioner?. Specks must require it to resist +- lbs of tension. I'm not interested in throwing parts at it in the hope of fixing it. I would like to know up front that it is weak by some test. thanks for the reply Dick
