What is your question?
What additional items do I need to replace water pump? Belts, hoses, etc. I think these items may be brittle and would like to replace everything connected to water pump.

Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! When replacing your water pump on a 2008 Buick Lucerne, you will need a pump, gasket and new coolant. It’s always good to inspect anything that needs to come off to do the repair like the drive belt. If anything is worse for wear, now is the time to replace it while you are in there. There are no hoses that connect directly to the water pump on the 3.8L, but it's still worth inspecting your radiator hoses and other hoses at this time. I'd also recommend inspecting the belt tensioner and idler pulleys as well as the upper 'dog bone' mount that has to come off to gain access. If you have the Northstar engine it is a little different and you won't need to remove the belt or dogbone to gain access, but there are some hoses you will need to disconnect. Depending on what caused the water pump to need to be replaced and if it ever overheated, it may not be a bad idea to replace the thermostat as well just for good measure. All in all, its difficult to say what you will want to replace until you give it a good visual inspection, and perhaps until you have already gotten into it, as some things you may not be able to see or inspect until you begin disassembly.
