That is a lot of work and expense to go through- I believe it would have been wise to have a technician diagnose your true problem before going through all that effort. There is a lot of possible causes, are there any codes? If so what are they? What does the data look like on the scan tool? What type of fuel pressure did you have before your put in a fuel pump? What fuel pressure do you have with the new fuel pump? Perhaps you have a defective fuel pump out of the box, especially if you used a brand that is known to have that happen. When the car was running bad- was it backfiring as you say it is now? Be sure you installed the crankshaft sensor properly. The magnet on the crank that is the pickup for the crank sensor may be dislocated, or it would be a dirty mass air flow sensor, stuck idle air control motor, did you have the battery disconnected for a long period of time? It may just need driven so the modules can relearn the parameters. It could have a bad ignition module- you'd need a labscope to look at the primary & secondary ignition systems. There are so many factors to look at, but best advise, go back to the basics, need air, fuel & spark along with an adequate amount of each to run an engine. Good luck.
