If I bought a computer for this car from O'reilly is it a plug in and drive unit or does it have to be programmed for this car? Also where is this computer located?

I just had this problem a few months ago... the mechanic told me that all the Buicks from 1996 and on, the computer is customized to the car... which of course adds allot the the price! The other difference with 1996 and later cars, is if the check engine light comes on, then goes off... the diagnostic code will be saved in the on-board computer. Earlier years, the check engine light has to actually be on, in order for the code to be read...
