Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your vehicle. If your LaCrosse sputters after filling up and you see a P0496 code, your evaporative emissions purge valve may be stuck open. This valve is supposed to keep fuel vapors from the gas tank from entering the engine when they shouldn't, like when you're filling up. If stuck open, those vapors can flood the engine, making it struggle to start. As long as the electrical circuit is good, replacing the purge valve should do the trick in most cases and get your car starting smoothly again after a fill-up. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered. Give us a call at 877-913-1554, and we will happily help you out!
