Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your Buick Encore. Fault codes P0171 and P1101 were common issues on this model. One of the main causes for these codes was a broken, collapsed, loose, or disconnected PCV hose while the other major concern was an incorrect air filter housing for this model. GM has released bulletins on these codes and this concern. The first check is to see if your PCV hose has any concerns with it needing to be replaced or reconnected as well as to check for any vacuum leaks on the engine. The air filter housing should be checked as well to make sure the correct engine air filter housing is installed. This is done by inspecting the internal contents of the housing to make sure it is the correct one for this specific vehicle. The lean code (P0171) is more common to cause the running or idling concern and is most commonly caused by a vacuum leak that would need to be located and repaired. With an engine running leaner than it should be, this in some cases can cause vibrations in the vehicle. There are specific test steps and inspections that will need to be performed to identify the causes for these fault codes that most shops will have the correct tools and know how with performing if needed.
