My enclave automatically defaults to tow mode when started. We drive in tour mode. How can I override this nuisance default ?

Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question, and that does sound like an annoying quirk to deal with every time you start the car. On your 2026 Buick Enclave some drive mode settings do not retain between ignition cycles by design, meaning the vehicle defaults back to a specific mode each time it's started as a factory setting. However on many GM vehicles there are options within the vehicle settings menu in the infotainment system that allow you to customize the default drive mode behavior, so that would be the first place I’d suggest exploring. That said, if the vehicle is consistently and unexpectedly defaulting to tow mode rather than a standard drive mode it could also indicate a fault in the drive mode selector system or a software issue worth having looked at. Since this is a 2026 model it should absolutely be under full factory warranty, so I’d recommend bringing it to your Buick dealer to have them check for any applicable software updates and/or for help in adjusting the default settings.
