Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Love the dedication to keeping a classic Century on the road! However the combination of burning oil, a clanking noise on startup, and no power over 20 mph is your engine waving a white flag. The clanking that gets better when warm is often a sign of worn rod or main bearings that have been starved of oil over time. The good news is your commitment to fixing it is the right attitude and a engine replacement or rebuild is absolutely a viable path on a car this solid. Before spending money on individual repairs a compression test would tell you quickly how much life is left in the current engine and help you decide whether to rebuild or swap.
