What is your question?
Well. I am a dumbass and removed the drain plug on the transmission for my wife's 06 z4 during an oil change. Assuming I can find 2.5 liters of fluid, just where is the fill plug? Hard to get clearance under the darn thing to see anything.... Please tell me its not under the exhaust pipe heat shield. Thank you!

the fill plug is fairly high on the case and is usually on the front. it's hard to get to even when the car is raised on a lift. suggest having it towed to a BMW specialty shop and let them be sure to fill it to the correct level and use the correct BMW fluid. you don't need to be a bigger dumbass by short filling the fluid or screwing up your wife's transmission. the small cost of a tow could be eclipsed by an enternity living down $5000 worth of tranny!!
Thank you. Spent untill the wee hours of the morning researching and found the plug, back left. A socket hex was too long to fit but a standard 8mm allen worked. Since I knew exactly what was drained out it was not a real isue of ammount to put back in but I took your advice and went to a BMW shop to verify properly filled. Thanks for your time! I used the (apparently) gold-infused BMW trans fluid listed on the sticker just to ease my mind about compatability - I find it hard to believe some of the multi-use oils do it all effectively. The mechanic recommends flushing at 60k - seems they see a lot of failures on the steptronic at about 100k - and they use a Redline product for refill. Gonna have to noodle that a bit - at least anoother 20k miles!
