What is your question?
On startup or shutdown, the car makes a noise, almost like a hydraulic noise. This has always been the case, but recently the sound seems to go on for a long time (almost a minute or two). Also, recently in the morning, the car seems to be very bouncy and this morning I got a "level control malfunction" error on the screen. Please help.

There are various modules/pumps/motors that come on and off when the car turns on/wakes up or shuts down. If equipped you may have a problem with the self leveling system in your car. Bring it to a qualified BMW specialist to have it looked at. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Kind regards, Stephane Grabina BMW Excluservice Rockville, MD 20852 www.bmwexcluservice.com
Unfortunately this happened to us, it was the rear suspension pump (Rear Air Supply Device) $1750....they told us it was the rear suspension bags first so we fixed them $1830...then they did the pump too. I wish we had done the pump first..not sure the bags were really bad. The pump will make a noise for a while, it will get louder..and when it goes out, you will have to have the car towed...you can not go over 20 mph without flying up into the ceiling...it's terrible. Check around on pricing...we got ripped off.
Thank you. In my case, it was the suspension air bags. The dealership took my car, "checked" it and then recommended that I change the air pump. I read about it extensively and most people said that the air bags sometime develop pin size holes that causes the air to leak over time and then the pump refills it. I took the vehicle back, asked them to check the air bags and sure enough there were pin holes. They changed the airbags (approx. $1500) and all is good now.
