Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Although I cannot see the concern firsthand and evaluate it compared to another lake vehicle with the same part, it would appear to me that having a hole in the housing of the throttlebody could allow for unmetered air to enter. This could cause various running and performance conditions. Without the proper trouble codes as well as the ability to monitor component in operation, it's difficult to weigh in further. Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! That small hole in the TPS (throttle position sensor) housing could absolutely be the culprit behind your throttle body codes. The TPS is like the maestro of the throttle system, telling the ECU exactly how much air the engine needs. If its housing is damaged, dirt, moisture, or even just air leakage can mess with the sensor's readings, confusing the ECU and triggering codes faster than a BMW burns premium gas. When you start the car, the ECU does a throttle body calibration, so if the TPS is misbehaving, it'll throw codes right away. You’ll want to replace or repair that throttle body assembly before this goes from "annoying check engine light" to "limp mode and roadside therapy session." If the hole looks patched or was caused by something melting, check for nearby heat or wiring damage too—it could save you a bigger headache down the road.
