What is your question?
I have a 2001 BMW X5, I changed the battery and now it doesn't want to stay on. when I turn it on, sometimes it turns off right away and sometimes it stays on but it shakes a lot. It begins to smell like something burning, more of an electrical burning smell, the car turned on well before changing the battery, and when it was changed I wasnt able to get it started.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Giving some gas helps it stay on longer but still has a rough idle
How long has your 2001 BMW X5 had this problem?
2 months

Hello, there's no way to know or guess what may be happening without a hands on analysis. I would ask first, what was the original purpose of changing the battery? As far as the burning smell, I'd be quite concerned; what could the source be? You can only know this by troubleshooting directly and tracing the source of the odor.
