Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Tune-up is a bit of an outdated term and I only say that because i want to make sure your issue gets the attention it deserves! Back in the day a tune up meant spark plugs, air filter, points, PCV valve if applicable. I don't want the shop to approach your Bimmer like a milage based maintenance. Spark plugs and ignition coils on your '14 X3 can depend on labor rates and whether you go with OEM or aftermarket parts. BMWs love their fancy parts, and those coils aren’t cheap. If only one or two coils are bad, you can replace just those, but if you're planning to keep the car long-term, swapping all six (or four, if it's a 4-cylinder) with the plugs is a solid move. If you’re DIY-ing, just be gentle with those coil connectors—BMW plastic gets brittle faster than a cookie in milk.
