Trunk lid and inside opening switches have stopped working. Has been getting worse, now dead. Seems like a battery problem, but there are no other indications of battery weakness.
What makes this problem better or worse?

The lock actuator for the trunk may have failed, or there may be a bad relay. This will require a little testing, but if you are handy with a multimeter, you can tackle the testing yourself.
