My sunroof is not closing I took it to the dealer and they told me I have to replace the sunroof because of problems in the valley. They had to turn the switch off so that the roof will remain close. Now I am having problems with water settling in the trunk and on the floor of the right side of the car. Do you know what is causing this problem?

It sounds like the sunroof drain is plugged up. Lift up the carpet or trim in trunk follow the drain tube that comes down from the roof and see if it blocked restricted or kinked in any way. Often get clogged up with leaves or twigs when parked under trees.
I had the same issue. I openned my sunroof one day & heard something pop then it wouldnt close. I took it to the dealership & was told the whole thing needed to be replaced. I was told that its not covered under warranty & would cost around $5000.00 to replace. I was devasted. I did some research online & saw that it was a common issue with the 2004 X3. It was something wrong with the design. I called the 800 # for BMW customer service & disussed that they need to fix it. I went back & forth with them & the dealership. When it was all said & done, I ended up paying $500.00 and got a brand new roof. It's under warranty for 2 years. No issues since :-)
If it's a common issue, then #1 why don't they check the drain when they service the car, and #2 cover the costs when the drain clogs? My car flooded and I have to replace the speaker in the door. It is costing $1,400.00! How can they charge me for something that is a common issue and/or be part of a regular maintenance check?
Where did you get the replacement Sun Roof ?? As I have the same problem, and my local BMW dealer is quoting $4400. to fix the Cassettee mechanism.
