Seat and Steering wheel don't adjust

this is a common problem in bmw's the control cables under the seat go bad. its happened on every one ive owned.as far as steering wheel column i dont know , mines always worked

You might want to check the drivers seat switch! I have a 2001 740il the plastic frame on the side of the seat that holds the switches can break when they get older if the switch comes unplugged from the wiring harness the drivers seat and the steering column quit.
