how do you check if a relay is good or bad

Power and earth should have been checked before proceeding with a pump replacement. Purchase a test light and a multimeter and you will not regret your investment. Check power and earth at the pump and work your way back or Vice versa and isolate the issue. Have you got the pump terminals on the right way round? Here is a few ways of checking relays in order of accuracy- -Placing ones hand on the relay while activating. Basically feeling for actuaiton -By removing the relay and giving it a shake. If there are loose components inside, its definitely seen better days. -By removing the plastic cover and visually checking contacts and actuation. -With a spare battery and an ohmmeter. Applying power and earth to terminals 86 and 85, then there should be continuity between terminals 30 and 87 or 87A. -With a proper "relay tester". If all is lost and you have no further avenues to exhaust, email me or tow the car to your nearest mechanic, which can be found in the "find a shop" tab above. Goodluck
