Driving to work and for the first time a warning allert came on saying transmission in safe mode operation and driving became sluggiss and seemed trans would hardly move vehicle.Then radio went off, battery indicator lit and a/c went off. Pulled over and stopped, cut car off for about 5-10 min started back up drove a short distants, car drove normal and everything operated normal. Had car towed home just to be safe. Tried to start car after getting it home, the battery was dead. Can anyone help me with and idea of what going on?

it all could possibly be related to low battery voltage. before you do anything, have a good local BMW specialist scan all the various modules.
Just like Overbys said. Looks like the alternator failed. It was a good call not to drive but tow it, however I'd get it towed to a good BMW specialty shop for a diagnostic and a possible alternator replacement. Don't attempt to start it with the bad battery. Low voltage and spike could cause permanent damage to control modules. The regular air cooled alternator is about $550, the water cooled is near $1000 + labor. Zee
Thanks youre right because after I replaced the battery, the generator/battery warning light came on. So I am getting ready to replace the alternator. Thanks for advice.
Good response, I am somewhat good with automobiles so I went ahead put a new battery. Started the car and everything operated fine, then the Generator/Battery light came on. I figure that means the alternator is bad. Thanks for the help.
