Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your BMW 528i. On this model your electronic ignition switch is seperate from the mechanical ignition cylinder itself. If the key is binding or will not turn more then just a small amount this is usually a good indication of the ignition key itself being worn and needing to be replaced or that the tumblers in the ignition cylinder are worn or binding to where the cylinder itself may need to be replaced. I recommend having your ignition key inspected first to see if it is worn and needing to be replaced, if it is found to be o.k. then the ignition cylinder will need to be removed and inspected to see if a tumbler can be replaced (usually by a locksmith in a case like this) or if the entire cylinder assembly has to be replaced. Replacing just the electronic ignition switch itself usually won't correct a concern like this. I wish I had some better news to give you.
