Why won't my car go into sport mode when I move the shifter left, into the sport mode position while driving? Nothing happens.

Sport mode shifting does not work. Sport mode will not show on my instrument panel display, either.

How long has your 2001 BMW 330xi had this problem?

Not sure if sport mode ever functioned since I purchased the car about 4 years ago.
