How long do we have to fix a recal?

A Recall -- which is related to emissions controls, safety of the vehicle or compliance should be done as soon as possible, as serious consequences can occur by delaying the needed repairs. Safety recalls are to protect the driver, occupants and other motorists and pedestrians from serious injury or death. Emissions controls recalls are to protect the environment. True "recalls" never expire. There are "owner notification programs" and special extended warranty coverages that are not recalls, but do provide for owner contact to advise of these coverages. These may expire, as described by vehicle manufacturer, as they are not related to safety or emission corrections required by federal law.
