Can I have the resenator pipe cut off with no problem. and replace it with a piece of ss pipe?

I did on an older BMW I had made the exhaust louder but I liked it.

Why do you think the gas milage is dropping? I bought the car in the spring of 2010, was getting 25 26 mpg, now its around 22.5,,, has clean air filter. Are there spark plugs that will increase milage?
