The use of a Scan Tool will be required to inspect and clear trouble codes. Disconnecting battery cables will not clear codes.
The Airbag light is a response to a "malfunction" within the Supplemental Restraint System. (SRS) Having the battery connected when you remove a seat will cause a code to appear. When the trip occurs, you will need to have a SRS reset tool which is not the same as a OBD-2 reset tool. Take your car to a shop and tell them you need your airbag light reset. They should do it for $40-60. You can also purchase a SRS tool yourself for about $120.
