There's oil leaking under the engine

what did your bmw mechanic say the problem was?

That is in the area of the rear main crankshaft oil seal .. However it's is not uncommon for residual oil from past oil changes to be collected on those engine splash shields under the vehicle and be mistaken for a present oil leak .. Hands-on inspection will be required - recommend UV dye leak test.
