Does "switch cluster steering column" replacement would fix my problem?

I bought a 2006 325i, and now randomly lights comes on in my dash board, I took it to a mechanic and they said that I have to change my switch cluster steering column which they would charge 1000.00 just labor + 700.00 parts so it would be around 2k to fix. My question, is this the correct diagnosis and if the price seems too high? Thanks, Frank
