What is your question?
I took my vehicle to get the transmission replaced. The shop had to replace it 4 times and they kept blaming the supplier. Once I received my vehicle, the transmission worked great, but the shifter felt loose to the point that i can move it with one finger though the whole gears. The shifter doesn't lock into place, so it can be manipulated easily to the point that any slight move can possibly change into a different gear. It's an automatic. The mechanic asked me if it was normal for the shifter to do that and I said no, that it wasn't doing that before.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Worse all the time. Not safe to drive or park.
How long has your 2005 BMW 325i had this problem?
A few days

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Four transmissions? The loose shifter isn’t normal especially on an automatic. It likely means the shop didn’t reattach the shift cable or linkage correctly, or they missed a retaining clip or bushing. The shifter should lock firmly into gears. Driving like this isn’t safe! The car could slip into the wrong gear at the worst moment. The shop needs to own this and fix the shifter so it works just like it did before.
