Why would my car be in 5th gear when i pull out from a dead stop?

I had my started replaced month or so ago. And they put a push button on my car. Now I have to turn key over and push the button. But when i put it from park to drive it makes a loud noise like I hit something . and when I pull out its like its in 5th gear. Very slow take off. Once I moveing its ok though. Why is this?
