-Hopefully it is the same on LHD cars too, remove the seat base of the rear seats by pull the front up forcefully and working it out of there. -Depressurized the system by unplugging the fuel pump while car is idling. -Should be on the right side with two hoses going to them, cut the factory hose clamps and replace them with conventional ones when you are done. -Removal of the senders require a special tool, but if you are handy and can work it out with punch and hammer working from one side to the other, than fair enough. -Pull the sender up and release connected plastic hoses, have plenty of rags handy, remove unit and disassemble on the bench. -Upon re-installation, precision is key to ensure the sender is positioned correctly to achieve an accurate fuel gauge reading. Replacement of large round seal is recommended. Suggest getting the mechanic to replace it if you have no prior mechanic experience. Your local mechanic can be found in the "find a shop" tab above.
The pump appears to be in the fuel tank. You might get lucky and have an access hatch either the carpet in the trunk, or under the back seat. If not you may have to lower the fuel tank.
Just replaced the fuel pump on a no start 2001 bmw 325i and the gas filter. The filter I found under the car right about the driver seat. The fuel pump in the gas tank ...on the right side. Once i verified spark, fuse and relay I decided to go for it and replace the pump as well as the gas filter. I opted to complete the job in the morning doing this to prevent the use of potential spark sources such as flash lights/lights etc. ...it is also cooler so not as much gasoline fumes. Once the fuel pump was replaced car started up ...he sounded weak though. I imagined there was air in the fuel line. I went to the fuel injector nipple where one can check the gas pressure and simply bleed the air out by poking with a small screw driver. Car started to run normal instantly. hope this helps someone as I had a real hard time finding the information required to complete this job.
