Where does the neutral safety switch located for 1999bmw 323i?

The car was driving fine. Turned it off. 6hrs later, i started the car. It has the gear sign with. ( ! ) inside the gear. No D. R, P and no 2,3,4 indicator light on the dash. Is that could ve the neutral position switch? Still drives. But only running on 4th gear.
