How do I set the 2 copper gaskets on the turbo coolant line
1 Reply
Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! The two copper gaskets on your turbo coolant line are crush washers. They seal the connection between the coolant line and the turbo to prevent leaks—essential for keeping the turbo cool and happy. When replacing them, start by draining the coolant and loosening the banjo bolt that secures the coolant line to the turbo. Remove the old washers (one on each side of the line fitting), then clean the surfaces where the washers seat. Position the new copper washers—one between the bolt head and the line, and one between the line and turbo. Tighten the banjo bolt to the manufacturer’s torque spec (don’t overdo it, or you’ll crush them too much). Refill the coolant, bleed the system, and check for leaks after running the engine. Simple, but critical for turbo longevity! If you need any further advice or want help finding a trusted RepairPal shop in your area, please feel free to call us at 877-913-1554.
