What is your question?
Can the Acura RDX Remote Control Vehicle Start Module 5E1V00117 OEM not allow the car to start? Honda dealer says this is the fix. They already changed the airbag module ($1900) and now they want $1700 for the start module. Do these modules tend to go out or do I have a more serious under lying problem?
What makes this problem better or worse?
It's dead and if you hook up the battery, it will drain the battery in a couple of days.
How long has your 2013 Acura RDX had this problem?

Hi, I'm Bogi, one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question, and we completely understand the concern after already spending $1900 on an airbag module! To answer your question directly, yes a faulty remote start module can absolutely cause a no start condition and is also a known cause of parasitic battery drain, as a malfunctioning module can stay active and draw power even when the vehicle is off. That said, having two expensive modules fail in close succession on a 2013 Acura RDX is worth questioning, and it would be reasonable to ask the dealer to clearly explain the diagnostic process that led them to both conclusions. I’d strongly recommend getting a second opinion from another qualified shop, ideally one with Honda and Acura experience, before authorizing another $1700 repair. A good technician should be able to perform a parasitic draw test and pinpoint exactly which module or circuit is causing the battery drain rather than relying on parts replacement alone.
