What is your question?
We took our car into the Saturn Dealer. Code P0440 showed up. They tested and found the Vent Solenoid inop. Tested power to the solenoid and found constant 12V current to solenoid from PCM. Want to replace PCM for $995 and vent solenoid for $210. They think this is the problem. Quite a costly problem for they think... Does this make sense? Thank you. Laura

I have replaced several of these Vent Solenoids on Saturn and other GM cars. There is a red wire from a 10 amp fuse that goes to the solenoid and the Engine Computer uses a white wire to ground the solenoid. Have the dealership unplug the Solenoid and test each wire individually. I don't see how the Computer could suddenly be providing 12 volts to the solenoid, from a part of the Computer that operates as a grounding function. Make them show you that there is 12 volts from the white wire, and I mean in person, with the solenoid unplugged and with the key on engine off. If they complain , take your car to a another shop and have them ONLY replace the Vent Solenoid and clear the code. I do Emissions work in N CA was a GM Dealership Journeyman Diagnostician, and I have replaced about 50 of these Vent Solenoids and I have yet to see this problem, so I am NOT convinced, not until I SEE the 12 volts from the white wire.
Thank you for your reply. Your information was very helpful. I will be taking your advice! P.S. I am new to this site and am not sure how the thumbs up worked, but I give you 10 thumbs up! lynx
Have you ever seen a PCM damaged by ABS or other solenoid in the car. I have a 93 saturn SC2 that blows the 5 volt fuse on PCM B location. Computer won't give any check engine lights. The ABS brake system is empty due to brake line rust through. I just bought the replacement computer and the instructions say check all solenoids. Do I fix or unplug the ABS before installing the computer? Thanks,SC2
