Passenger window goes down but not up

(2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK320)

Passenger window will not go up either from roof switch or window switch. putting direct power to window regulator motor in door operates window up and down by reversing positive wire to post on motor. replaced window switch but did not correct problem any ideas?

If the window goes down smoothly and will not go up, then this is typically caused by a defective switch. It is the same motor that lowers the window, but as long as the mechanical regulator is ok and the window is not binding and goes down normally, then that usually indicates that switch UP function is not working.

Which switch are you suggesting? I did replace the switch that operates the window. Yes it does not bind and when I connect direct leads from a battery to the terminals of the motor it operates smoothly
