Could also be the cooling system thermostat, restricted radiator, or a mildly blown head gasket. Get this checked out as more serious damage may occur.

Is there coolant in the expansion tank? Is the fan working? Can you get heated air out of the vents?

If your A3 is only overheating in traffic it's due to the radiator fans not coming on asthe thermo switch at the radiator id defective. We've seen a few of these. Feel free to give me a call at 415-241-8178 and we will look at it for you at N/C. Take care, Mike
