Massive oil leak on way to town in winter. Had smelled oil intermittently before but barely noticeable. No spots on ground before the major leak. Parked until now (spring). Lots of oil on underside and exhaust. No idea where it's coming from. No problems with this vehicle until this.
Burning swell of oil after engine has been running for awhile. No visible sign of oil leaks on the ground
Car periodically has burning oil smell and smoke swells that rise from the engine and come through the vents in the car. Only happens periodically. No signs of oil leaks as bone dry under vehicle and no visible signs of oil under the hood. Anyone have any fixes or similar problem?
I have a BMW X3. I got an oil change. Shortly after, a month or two later. I started to smell something burning. I took it into the dealer since I had a warranty, and they told me I had a leak. They in turn sent it to the BMW dealer.
Smelled the engine at first. Once I actually spotted smoke after parking on an incline. Took it into European Automotive here in Atlanta. Gaskets (valve cover gasket) were just old and thus leaking oil onto other parts of the engine which in turn caused the smell and smoke. They entire bill came to around $2,400 but included getting new front brakes ($500) a radiator hose ($200) and some other little stuff. Even subtracting that stuff out, it was over $1K to repair.
Within a period of 15 months I have had the same problem come up where an engine oil leak was diagnosed as coming from the valve cover gasket(at 51,000 and 59,000 miles.) Both times the evaporator was found to be leaking and was replaced, as well as, 5 gasket rings. Fortunately in both instance I was covered by an extended warranty which greatly reduced the cost to me.
We have replaced oil filter housing - know being told valve cover is also leaking. In addition springs were replaced and engine mount bolts broke.
All of this before 74,000 miles. All mataince has been done by the dealer.
i have the same problem , but im recome go to youtube they show about to fixed and you save to much money before go to mechanic,, but dont go to dealer ,, is very spend.. , im not happy in this car, because is very low miles. what abouth in the future.. ufff?.....
Started leaking oil on the passenger side smoke from under the hood. Looks like spray when i look at theengine.
Fixed the cap, but mechanic said he can't count/find how many leaks there are. Great. I am embarrassed to park anywhere but the street.
MY BMW WAS OVERHEATIN/ Call toll truck/ and the merchant change a couple of thing which I don't have the bill with me/ the abs brake light on/ 4x4 light on, what is wrong
Oil leak with brining smell. Replaced engine oil pan and gasket at approx 75k miles for $900. Now there is a second oil leak near the oil filter gasket which will cost about $350 at 82k miles
As described, burnt oil smell due to oil from valve cover gasket dripping on exhaust heat shield.
